Principles Completeness Company impacts are often so widespread that it is important to report on the broader value chain, beyond a company’s direct operations. Complete reports describe the scope and boundaries and discuss direct and indirect material impacts along the value chain. Key recommendations Describe the reporting scope and organizational boundaries, such as business segments and sub-operations included in the report. Describe the stages of the organization’s value chain and value creation process and map direct and indirect material impacts to different stages. Discuss material impacts beyond direct operations, including indirect upstream and downstream considerations. Methodology notes Clear disclosure of value chain boundaries for material topics and a centralized narrative that explains the value chain considerations in detail. Of the reports we reviewed: Bridgestone Bridgestone’s Integrated Report 2025 clearly identifies its reporting scope and organizational boundaries in the upfront editorial policy of the report. It covers Bridgestone Corporation and its subsidiaries and affiliates around the world for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2024. A strength of the report is the description of the value creation process, starting with a detailed overview that indicates inputs, operational processes and outputs. For inputs, Bridgestone describes six capitals: financial, manufactured, intellectual, human, social and relationship, and natural. Bridgestone links the value creation process and outputs to its mission, E8 Commitment and midterm business plan (2024- 2026), demonstrating how the value creation process supports its vision and strategy. The model overview highlights some of Bridgestone’s downstream and upstream impacts, which it discusses robustly throughout the report. This includes support for smallholders, linking to the sustainable procurement and traceability of natural rubber, a narrative on the implementation of water stewardship plans to address impacts on water-stressed areas, and details of the Bridgestone Road Safety Program launched to address global road safety challenges that impact society and its own employees. The overarching value chain model also refers to the Sustainability Business Model, where Bridgestone details how it generates value – from its upstream supply chain through to end-of-life tire collection and the recycling of materials. % describe the scope and boundaries and give an overview of their value chain impacts. 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 5 % disclose detailed information about their value chain, including an overview of their value creation process, where material issues occur along the value chain and an explanation of upstream and downstream impacts. 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 2 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 3
