While 92% of reports provide evidence of the integration of sustainability into corporate strategy, less than three-quarters (71%) of reports complement this with an execution roadmap and evidence of financial- impact information. To better understand how each company’s sustainability strategy ties to its broader corporate strategy, we began looking for evidence of integration, the provision of an execution roadmap showing how the company will enact the strategy, and the extent to which evidence of financial information (e.g., capital expenditures) supports the strategy. Taken together, these three elements demonstrate the robustness of the strategy and level of sustainability integration into a company’s near- and long-term planning. Of the reports reviewed, 92% provide evidence of the integration of sustainability into the broader corporate strategy; 79% disclose an execution roadmap, with time-bound and measurable targets that link directly to the strategy. Finally, 87% provide financial impact information, such as capital expenditure, investments or cost savings tied to their strategy. This is particularly clear in APAC, where 93% of reports disclose financial impact information related to the sustainability strategy. Across all three regions, 71% report on all three elements, showing how reporting is maturing globally and how companies are embedding sustainability into their business. In addition to materiality and the level of strategic integration, we also draw out data on megatrends affecting business strategies. By disclosing the impact of key megatrends in their reporting, companies can demonstrate how they are adapting their strategy to the rapidly evolving global context, anticipating risks and identifying opportunities. Climate change is the most common megatrend identified by companies, with 73% of reports listing it as a key influence on their operating context. Climate-related topics are also most commonly named as material – as observed in the reports of over 70% of companies. Consumer behavior shifts are also frequently observed as having an impact, with 41% of reports highlighting this trend. Nearly 40% of reports mention political instability, economic volatility, circularity and sustainability regulations as megatrends impacting their business.
