Double materiality assessments provide a new blueprint for reporting, with 83% of reports disclosing a double materiality approach in 2025, compared to 77% in 2024. The application of dynamic materiality has also increased, from 9% to 14% of reports, demonstrating how material topics evolve. Nearly all (91%) companies reviewed disclose a materiality process. Over 95% of reports by companies in APAC and EMEA describe a materiality process, compared to 74% of reports by companies in the Americas. This difference is likely due to reporting requirements in the EMEA region, as mandated by CSRD, and rising expectations from regulators and investors regarding materiality in the APAC region. A similar trend is observed in the type of materiality process disclosed, with 83% of reports describing a double materiality process across the three regions: 91% in EMEA, 73% in APAC and 71% in the Americas. In addition, an increasing number of companies disclose a dynamic materiality process, recognizing that sustainability topics evolve over time due to changing legislation, external trends and market developments. This year, 14% of reports indicate a dynamic materiality process, up 5% from last year. We saw an 11% increase in reports indicating some level of dynamic materiality (by stating that they conduct regular assessments or updates), with 57% of reports indicating this in 2025. These developments are positive, showing more companies are gearing up efforts to assess their impacts, risks and opportunities and understand how they impact their business. Ultimately, this will lead to more companies leveraging materiality processes and outcomes to inform and influence strategy and business decision-making – resulting in increased business resilience and long-term value creation.
